ON APRIL 28 AND MAY 6, 2016 WE PUBLISHED ARTICLES ON HOA BULLYING AT BRADFORD PLACE, VERO BEACH, FL WHERE HOME OWNER STEVE GLASER WAS BEING THREATENED WITH A LAWSUIT BY THE BRADFORD PLACE HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATION FOR HAVING FLOWERS THAT ARE “TOO COLORFUL” IN HIS FRONT YARD.  AND HOW THEY ARE DECREASING THE VALUE OF HIS AND OTHER RESIDENCES.

The atrocity is that on July 5, 2016 the flower garden pictured above turned into this:

Flower garden 1

On Tuesday, July 5, Beverly Hunter, the Secretary of the Bradford Place Board of Directors and three employees of Natures Ground showed up at Mr. Glaser’s house, unannounced, and removed his entire garden, destroying all his flowers.

An employee of Nature’s Ground pulling up flowers.

At one point a neighbor in the community asked Ms. Hunter to produce any kind of documentation authorizing removal of the flowers, which she was unable to do.

There should have been a citation of some type from a Board of Directors meeting, but apparently there had been no meeting.

If Mr. Glaser had been found guilty of being a “habitual offender of gardening” he should have been entitled to a hearing among his peers in the community.

Neighbor, who asked Ms. Hunter for HOA authorization witnessing devastation.

Think of the financial and time investment that was also destroyed.

Interviewed on the phone, the witness said that while Ms. Hunter observed the destruction she “looked as proud as a peacock; as though it was a power trip.”

Mr. Glaser was told if he didn’t remove the plants that had been pulled out and put on his lawn in a few hours, Nature’s Ground would be back to take them.  During this timeframe Mr. Glaser did his best to take as many as he could to friends and family.

In our previous articles we documented, with photographs, other flower gardens in the community.  The are even other gardens being expanded.

For several months Mr. Glaser has been seeking the truth as to why he why he has been singled out as a “habitual offender of gardening.”

Could it be religious discrimination?

  1. I HATE HOA’s and will never move to a residential community again in the future that has a HOA. This story is just so damn frustrating!!! I hope a local attorney will take this case Pro-Bono and help Mr. Glaser sue the hell out of that community’s HOA!

By the way folks, every home owner in Vero needs to help spread the word about Bradford Place so no one else moves in! SHAME ON YOU FOLKS!!!

Maybe a local area nursery/plant store will donate more flowers for his planting! I would frequent the local business that does this does this for Mr. G laser. Please keep us updated on this story Sir! Thanks.

  2. It is HOA actions like these that give them a bad rep. My question is this: Was there anything in the bylaws limiting flower colors? If not, then the HOA was way out of line, to say nothing of an illegal trespass to remove the plantings. Florida courts have consistently sided with the homeowner in similar cases. For example, without a color book, homeowners can paint their homes with virtually any color paint.

  3. FL courts require that HOA requirements be clearly stated and not a matter of individual taste, be reasonable and be uniformly enforced from the neighborhood’s inception. Due process must be followed. It seems clear that the HOA’s action was illegal.

  4. Mr. Glaser should take the HOA to court and sue them for the damage and destruction to his property, including punitive damages. That will teach them.

  5. Pretty sure that a few years back our legislators changed the laws regarding HOAs so they are no longer allowed to control the type or quantity of plants in our yards. This HOA could be in big trouble. Rudy Kirchner, doctorkirchner.com

  6. Absurd ! Natures beauty destroyed over jealous and controlling wanna be dictators. They are more than likely the kind of people that don’t want grandparents to have their grandchildren over either, because it will be against some noise ordinance for the HOA. My house would be for SALE!
