Indian River County Hospital District Trustee Dr. Michael Weiss.
“MY ANSWER IS YES. I THINK ANY PUBLIC FORUM IS IMPORTANT. IT ALLOWS THE PEOPLE TO GET THE INFORMATION TO BECOME INFORMED VOTERS.
THE HOSPITAL DISTRICT IS AN IMPORTANT BODY. THEY ARE CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PROVIDING HEALTH CARE TO OUR COMMUNITY, i.e. THE RESIDENTS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY.
The district owns the hospital and has leased it to the Indian River Medical Center, who is charged with the operation of the hospital.
This is a unique relationship. The District also funds the health department and other health care facilities within the community. As such, the District, provides health care to the entire community.
At the same time the District has an obligation to the tax payers of the county, to ensure that their monies are being spent properly.”
Since our children’s education is one of the most important determinants of a healthy and prosperous society, on August 3, 2016 Vero Communiqué published responses from all but one of the candidates for Indian River School District School Board to 10 questions we gathered from our reader base.
If child development is at the forefront, so too is healthcare.
In this regard, we have invited all the candidates for the position of an Indian River County Hospital District (IRCHD) Trustee to participate in a similar question and answer forum, where we will provide each of them with 10 identical questions gathered in similar fashion, from our reader base.
So far, all but two candidates are participating. Mr. Anthony Woodruff has not responded and we have been unable to establish contact with Ms. Brittany Miller, despite several voicemails.
After emailing over two dozen individuals with a special interest in the IRCHD asking for questions, on September 30, 2016 we were able to submit the 10 questions to the candidates.
We will publish their answers in the mid-October timeframe before the election, as early voting beings on October 24.
As an aside, we posted this article on our Vero Communique Facebook page and as of 10:00 p.m. October 2, we have received 3,356 views and 207 likes. This affirms there is a great deal of interest in this election.
