Vero Beach, FLA (JANUARY 26, 2017) — In his 19th year as CEO Indian River Medical Center (IRMC) CEO Jeffrey L. Susi, FACHE, announced to the Medical Center’s board of directors his intention to retire no later than the end of 2017.

“I have really enjoyed my time at IRMC and am extremely proud of the transformation of this good community hospital into the excellent Community Medical Center that exists today,” Susi said in a letter to IRMC Board of Directors Chairman Dr. Wayne Hockmeyer.

Susi came to IRMC in 1998 and has led a transformation that today sees the medical center with more than 300 physicians on medical staff representing 41 specialties, heart and cancer centers affiliated with Duke Health, and the growth of the Indian River Medical Center Foundation that enjoys enormous philanthropic support throughout the community. IRMC is ranked by U.S. News as “One of the Best Regional Hospitals in Southern Florida” and 18th of the state’s 260 hospitals.

“I have enjoyed the passion that the community has for this institution from discussions with community leaders, the Indian River County Hospital District Trustees, and others that pushed to ensure the hospital is the best for the community,” Susi said.

“Jeff’s 30-plus years in leadership of nonprofit hospitals reflect a passion for excellence and we have been fortunate to have his dedication and vision here at IRMC,” said Hockmeyer. “We are grateful to Jeff for all he has done to give this community a medical center it can be proud of.

“IRMC has a succession plan which we will follow to identify his successor. We appreciate that Jeff has given us the time necessary to implement that plan to find the right leader,” said Hockmeyer.
