ON AUGUST 31, 2017 THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY SOUTH BEACH PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION (SBPOA) IS CELEBRATING THEIR SILVER JUBILEE BY INVITING YOU TO THEIR EMINENT SPEAKERS FORUM.
The South Beach Property Owners Association (SBPOA) does everything it can to protect the interests of its over 2,609 property owners. The South Beach extends from the 17th Street (Alma Lee Loy) Bridge to the St. Lucie line, stretching seven miles along the Indian River Lagoon.
The forum will be held at the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts at St. Edward’s School, 1895 St. Edward’s Drive, Vero Beach. Attendance is free of charge. The forum begins at 6:00 p.m. Please RSVP to cherylinvero@gmail.com
The theme of the forum is “Protecting and Preserving the Quality of Life and Natural Resources of the South Beach, Lagoon and Barrier Island.”

Speakers include Dr. Valerie Paul, Ph.D, Head Scientist of the Smithsonian Marine Station, the Honorable Debbie Mayfield, Florida State Senator, District 17, the Honorable Laura Moss, Mayor of the City of Vero Beach and Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar. (In the event of an emergency, Sheriff Loar will be represented by Major Eric Flowers.)
The speaker’s topics are as follows:
Dr. Valerie Paul, Ph.D
Dr. Paul will be informing Barrier Island residents on the condition of the Indian River Lagoon, quality of life and economic threats posed by unchecked pollution and what the SBPOA and its members can do to arrest the quality decline.
Florida State Senator Debbie Mayfield
Senator Mayfield will be informing Barrier Island residents on State legislation that passed in the last legislative session and pending/future legislation in the upcoming legislative session and in the upcoming legislative session that may impact the quality of life and the resources of the Barrier Island voters.
Vero Beach Mayor Laura Moss
Vero Beach Mayor Laura Moss will be informing the Barrier Island residents on the latest developments on the pending sale of the City’s electrical system to Florida Power and Light and the economic impact or non-sale will have on the pocket books of Barrier Island customers. Mayor Moss will also be addressing other avenues of improving the quality of life for Barrier Island residents.
Sheriff Deryl Loar Major Eric Flowers
Emergencies notwithstanding, Sheriff Deryl Loar and/or Major Eric Flowers of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office will be in attendance to answer questions and concerns of residents with respect to safety and law and order on the Barrier Island.
