Vero Communiqué Board Member Sergio Mota, formerly of Sebastian, Florida, now living in Bronx, NYC, was given an opportunity to meet Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase, the largest of the big four American banks.

Mr. Mota is a pre-law senior and political science major at Hunter College in NYC.

As a participant of the CUNY-Hunter Detroit Service core program, Mr. Mota worked with Mid-Town Detroit Inc to analyze the potential impacts of revitalizing open lots.

He is a Grove Scholar, a prestigious and rigorous Fellowship that provides mentorship, professional development and a financial award to Grove Fellows, students who are committed to public service, public policy and human rights.

Previously Mr. Mota ran for City Council in the City of Sebastian where he severed on the municipal budget and charter committees.

Mr. Mota recently received this email from the president’s office at Hunter College: “Sergio – There is a special opportunity this week on 1/16. It sounds like I may be able to nominate a number of students – the final decisions may be made by another office, so I cannot make a formal promise. Would you be interested in attending a lunch featuring Jamie Dimon? As you are probably aware, JPM has a big initiative in Detroit – they are the folks who connected us for the tour that started at Sister Pie. Pls let me know asap and kindly send resume. Thanks!”

 

Mr. Mota grew up in the Bronx and received a A Better Chance scholarship to attend Radnor High School, a public high school in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania.  Of all high schools in Pennsylvania, Radnor is ranked 5th by U.S. News & World Report, and 1st by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. He relocated to Sebastian, FL after his sophomore year to be close to family and graduated from Sebastian River High School in 2014.

At Sebastian River High School he was a member of the International Baccalaureate Program, a two-year, college preparatory program for 11th and 12 graders featuring a comprehensive curriculum with a focus on higher level critical thinking skills, extensive instruction on writing, problem solving and research.

“Right now what’s going on in  politics is the breakdown between citizens and public officials.  Young people are our only hope to challenge this breakdown and bring public officials and citizens together.”

He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Vero Communiqué, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit online news organization.

The woman to the right of Mr. Dimon is Jennifer Raab, president of Hunter College.  Mr. Mota is second from the right.

According to Mr. Mota, “Jamie Diamond had a way of walking, where he was in power. You just knew by the way he walked he was in a position of power.”
