Subject: School Board Policy

Dear Chair Laura Zorc,

I am asking for confirmation if the following is policy regarding the preparation of the Agenda.

1)      Is it the responsibility of the superintendent AND the School Board chair to develop, prepare and arrange the order of items for the tentative School Board meeting agenda for each School Board meeting?

2)      Can Board members wishing to place an item on the agenda make a request to the School Board chair or superintendent in a timely manner? If so, is it the Chair AND superintendent that shall determine whether to place the matter on the tentative agenda?

3)      Can Citizens wishing to place an item on the agenda make a request to the School Board chair or superintendent in a timely manner? If so, is it the Chair AND superintendent that shall determine whether to place the matter on the tentative agenda?

4)      May items only be added to the agenda by a motion adopted at the meeting?

I’ve been assuming it IS policy that Chair Laura Zorc is preparing the agenda with Dr. Rendell. Furthermore, that if a citizen wanted to place an item on the agenda, he/she could make a request to the Chair, which would require a response – accept/deny the request. Also, board members who wanted to discuss Dr. Rendell’s mismanagement, could make a motion to discuss it.

Without such a policy, school board members have no voice.

Please advise. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Claudia Wahl

  1. Sadly many questions go unanswered by the school district.
At the January 15, 2019 board meeting the public was informed that Rendell would have budget answers (especially since he stated the Finance Director Pelletier’s numbers were way off) on January 29, 2019.
On 1/29/19 the public is left with more questions than answers. What is definitely apparent is that the Finance Director was correct and probably saved this school district by coming forward with her numbers. What is not clear is how long would Rendell have allowed the dangerously low budget to go before saying something to the board?
What is astonishing to me and others in my community that discuss this is the lack of honesty, lack of integrity and the continued lying to the board that is going on by Rendell and the board seems to be oblivious to it.
Are these board members as idiotic as the last bunch? Is there some sort of back door dealings going on with Rendell that the public is unaware of? Is this board truly this blind or are they just that weak? What exactly are they afraid of in firing a man that has publicly made a mockery of this school district, lying, conniving and almost ruining the previous CFO’s reputation in order to hide a low budget balance from the board?
What does it take for them to fire him? If it is going against the direction of the board attorney, they obviously need to replace that one too! It’s been apparent to a 3rd grader watching these board meetings who she works for. It isn’t the board.
The Board of the School District of Indian River County needs to take some drastic measures. It needs to start at the top!
