Warren “Kim” Kimber, Jr. and his wife Bobbie established the Joy Street Foundation to support education at all levels.

Of the Young Authors Program, Bobbie Kimber, Foundation Trustee,  said “we’ve never seen one like this. It is so new.”

“The Foundation wants to recognize what you’ve done and become the first, from a Foundation level, to help you replicate the program here and in other areas.  It’s going to be so exciting to watch it grow. You are really opening up all kinds of doors for these children.”

Kim Kimber was a humble modest family man who died on September 17, 2015 at the age of 82.  He and his wife Bobbie were longtime Summit, N.J., residents, who lived in New Vernon, N.J., Martha’s Vineyard and Florida.

Mr. Kimber was a longtime chairman and CEO of Kimber Petroleum Corporation in Liberty Corner, N.J. He was also president of AmoMAC (Amoco Managers Acceptance Corp.), 1994; president of Carlton Oil Corp., 1988 to 1994, and president of Bassett Associates, 1978.

A trustee of Hobart College, he served on the board of directors of Summit Bank, Chatham Savings Bank, CrossAmerica Partners, and the United Way, and was a member of the Amoco Jobber Advisory Board, Amoco National Advisory Board, and board of directors of the United Way of Summit. In addition, Mr. Kimber actively participated with many not-for-profit organizations in Summit, N.J.

Mr. Kimber was also extremely active with the Pingry School in Basking Ridge, N.J., from which he graduated in 1952. He served the Pingry School as a trustee for 19 years, including chair of the board from 1988 to 1995. In 1983 he received their Letter-in-Life award and in 1995 the school bestowed upon him their Citizen of the Year award.

 

After graduating from the Pingry School, he went on to receive a B.A. from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where he won three letters in football and three letters in lacrosse. Mr. Kimber served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Corps and studied industrial and labor relations at Cornell University.

Throughout his career, he remained active with the game of lacrosse. Mr. Kimber was an intercollegiate official and became both chief referee and, for over 20 years, district assigning director for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).

 

In addition, he was national coordinator of Men’s Lacrosse Officials for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), for whom he also served on the board of directors. Mr. Kimber was a member of and chief referee for the New Jersey Interscholastic Lacrosse Officials Association and a member of the USILA Metro-New York Officials Association. In 1997, he was among the first inductees into the New Jersey Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame.
