Should a School Board Member Post an Image of a KKK Hood on their Social Media Page?

The Indian River Freedom Coalition (IRFC), a community for those who honor diversity, inclusivity, and safety for families in Indian River County Schools, is calling upon the residents of Indian River County to take immediate action and call for the removal of Gene Posca from his position as a board member.  This is the link to their petition, now with over 500 signatures.

IRFC believes that his unethical behavior, including sharing racist and homophobic content on his personal social media accounts, is not befitting of a representative responsible for shaping our children’s education.

According IRFC, “Posca was the only member of the local school board who did not request the State Department of Education to review recent African American history standards. These standards provide an inaccurate representation of history by acknowledging that blacks received benefits from slavery. By not requesting this important review process, Posca has shown insensitivity towards addressing racial inequalities in education.”

Notwithstanding the post with the KKK hood, we also found this one, which as with the one above, clearly inserts politics into a non-partisan arena.

And then we found this one. What’s this all about?

“When words are equated with violence, it becomes appropriate to put a knife to the throats of those of you who speak what you disagree with.”

Are these words you and your student want to read from their school board member.

  1. This is an absolute mess. I signed the petition. I wouldn’t have known anything about it if I hadn’t stumbled on this blog by accident. Thanks for sharing it.
